Over 20 million people live within Mexico City and it´s metropolitan area, and it continues to grow. In this megalopolis about 21 million trips are done on public transportation during a day, 60 per cent are made in minibuses, mini-vans and taxis.
There are approximately 120,000 taxi-cabs registered in the city which are used as an individual mean of transport. And about 30,000 buses are used as collective transport.
The Secretaria de Transporte y Vialidad (SETRAVI), office of the public administration for Mexico City, is responsible among others for planning and developing integral transportation, controls urban transportation, leads public policies and programs for the transportation development.
